If you want to shoot for coins, you can choose the coin setting which discriminates all iron readings. If you are relic hunting, you can switch to the relic mode which has less discrimination and a little more depth than the other settings. I also enjoyed the depth of the detector. I found coins at 6-7 inches commonly and was surprised at how crisp and clean the tone was.
